Municipal Wastewater Treatment
The Challenge
Municipalities are under increasing pressure to meet stringent discharge regulations while reducing costs and environmental impact. Algae blooms, nutrient pollution, and aging infrastructure make it harder than ever to maintain compliance.
Conventional biological treatment systems are large, energy-intensive, and often ill-equipped to recover valuable nutrients like nitrogen or calcium—treating them as waste instead of resources.
“Nutrients found in wastewater — especially nitrogen which comes from human urine and other types of waste — are major contributors to algal blooms. And algal blooms are expected to happen more frequently as water temperatures and other conditions change in the bay with global warming. ”

The Roca Solution
Roca’s modular, membrane-free electrochemical system enables targeted recovery of key materials from wastewater—offering a compact, energy-efficient alternative that scales with need.
Currently at TRL 3–4, with successful lab-scale prototypes in development. We're advancing toward field testing.
